NATICK, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Natick Community Organic Farm is working to raise enough money to rebuild its barn and greenhouse that were destroyed in a fire last year.
The fire on March 17, 2021, ripped through the 200-year-old barn and the nearby greenhouse and killed two sows and 14 piglets. No people were injured in the blaze. The farm is looking to raise around $1.1 million to rebuild the two lost structures.
Executive director Casey Townsend told WBZ’s Kim Tunnicliffe he’s confident they’ll reach that goal.
"This is a farm where we haven’t charged anybody ever to come into," Townsend said. "I think the people have really taken notice of that so the majority of our fundraising is grassroots."
The farm’s fundraiser is set to get a big boost too. An anonymous donor has pledged to donate $200,000 to the fundraiser if the farm can match the donation by Halloween. Townsend said he’s thankful for all of the people who have donated so far to help them get their challenge gift.

"This place is an institution to so many people," Townsend said. "The community support has been amazing."
