The prices of rice increased in the city’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday.
Traders said that the prices of the staple started rising amid the harvesting of aman paddy across the country due to the recent hike in fuel oil prices.
Usually the price of the fine variety of rice goes up in the season as the coarse variety of rice is produced in the aman season, they said.
But in this aman season the prices of both the fine and coarse varieties went up on the market as the production and transport cost of the staple increased due to the diesel price hike, traders said.
The prices of rice increased by Tk 2 a kilogram in the city markets over the week.
The coarse variety of rice was selling for Tk 45-48 a kilogram and the medium quality variety for Tk 54-58 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The standard variety of Miniket rice sold for Tk 62-63 a kilogram, the fine variety for Tk 66-68 a kilogram and Najirshail for Tk 68-70 a kilogram on Friday.
The prices of vegetables remained high in the city’s kitchen markets.
Aubergine sold for Tk 50-70 a kilogram, papaya for Tk 25-30 a kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 50-60 a kilogram, bottle gourd for Tk 40-60 apiece, okra for Tk 40-60 a kilogram, pointed gourd for Tk 40-50 a kilogram, cauliflower for Tk 30-50 apiece, cabbage for Tk 30-40 apiece, bean for Tk 30-40 a kilogram, cucumber for Tk 60 a kilogram, carrot for Tk 70-80 a kilogram and tomato for Tk 120-130 a kilogram on Friday.
Green chilli sold for Tk 100-120 a kilogram on the day.
The price of potato remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 25 a kilogram in the markets on Friday.
The prices of edible oil remained high in the city markets over the week.
Palm oil traded for Tk 130-140 a litre while unpackaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 140-145 a litre in the city markets on Friday.
A one-litre bottle of soya bean oil sold for Tk 155-165 while five litres of packaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 700-760 in the city markets on the day.
The prices of onion remained unchanged over the week in the city.
The local variety sold for Tk 60-65 a kilogram and the imported variety for Tk 50-55 a kilogram in the capital on Friday.
The price of broiler chicken also remained unchanged over the week and the item was selling for Tk 150-160 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The Sonali variety of chicken was selling for Tk 280-300 a kilogram while the local variety was selling for Tk 500-550 a kilogram on the day.
Beef sold for Tk 580-620 a kilogram in the city markets on Friday. Mutton was selling for Tk 800-850 a kilogram in the city on the day.
The prices of fish remained unchanged over the week.
Rohita sold for Tk 250-300 a kilogram and Katla for Tk 250-280 a kilogram, depending on size and quality.
Pangas sold for Tk 130-180 a kilogram and Tilapia for Tk 120-160 a kilogram.
The coarse variety of red lentil sold for Tk 90 a kilogram and the medium quality variety for Tk 95-100 a kilogram on Friday.
The fine variety of red lentil sold for Tk 115-120 a kilogram on the day.
The prices of garlic remained unchanged over the week. The imported variety retailed at Tk 120-130 a kilogram while the local variety sold for Tk 80 90 a kilogram on Friday.
The prices of ginger remained unchanged. The imported variety sold for Tk 100-120 a kilogram and the local variety retailed at Tk 120 150 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of eggs decreased by Tk 2 a hali (four pieces) over the week and the item was selling for Tk 34-36 a hali on Friday.
Fine-quality packaged salt retailed at Tk 35 a kilogram and the refined variety at Tk 20 a kilogram on the day.
