According to the calendar, summer began on June 21. However, everyone knows that summer really starts with a barbecue, delicious drinks and live music — that's why Clackamas On Tap and Uncorked checks all the boxes.COURTESY PHOTO: NCPRD - Diners enjoy a barbecue during the Clackamas On Tap and Uncorked event three years ago.COURTESY PHOTO: NCPRD - The Sara Hite Memorial Rose Garden at the Milwaukie Community Center is once again the site of the Clackamas On Tap and Uncorked event.
Even better, the June 25 event at Milwaukie Community Center is the MCC Foundation's fundraiser supporting Meals on Wheels and Social Services programs. This is the first time the event has been held since COVID-19 brought everything to a halt.
Junia Stephens, foundation director, said she’s most looking forward to being back in person.
"So many lives are touched by the services provided at the center; Meals on Wheels delivers up to 275 meals each and every day," she said.
"We were a lifeline during the pandemic to homebound adults. The blood pressure and foot clinics and respite services available help so many, as well as rent/utility assistance," Stephens added. "We have held our heads above water during the last two years thanks to our generous donor base, yet bringing our fundraisers back is breathing life back into our sails.”COURTESY PHOTO: NCPRD - Attendees listen to live music during a previous Clackamas On Tap and Uncorked event.
For the first time, Clackamas On Tap and Uncorked is also a Portland Rose Festival Community Partner event.

Stephens said she attended an Oregon Festivals and Events Association convention a few months back and met Steve Bledsoe, Portland Rose Festival's waterfront activities manager.
On Tap fit all the requirements to become a partner event and so Stephens applied for the honor.
"It didn't hurt that we hold it in our beautiful Sara Hite Memorial Rose Garden, and that Harry Landers of Portland International Rose Test Garden fame is the caretaker," she said.
Moving it from the original end of August date to fit into the festival's date range was a challenge, but Stephens felt that the partnership was an opportunity to be a part of something special in the Metro area.
Food and drink
The entry fee for the event includes dinner, dessert, a tote with promotional materials from event sponsors and an etched wine or beer glass. Drinks are purchased separately from a new vendor, the Traveling Taphouse.

Featured on the menu are pulled pork that's been smoked for 12 hours, a vegetarian wrap, pasta salad, marinated vegetable salad, baked beans, berry crisp and ice cream.
"We are most grateful for the chefs and generous donors at Nerds To Go, Elite Towing, Clackamas View Senior Living, Sunnyside Meadows, Buster's BBQ, US Foods and Baskin Robbins Gladstone," Stephens said.
She also expressed gratitude to Cooper's Hall Winery, Catman Cellars and Breakside Brewery for their generosity in supporting the event.
"Their products are top of the line, and we are proud to serve them. Pendleton Whiskey and other spirits will also be offered."
Music, raffle
Stephens said the Rae Gordon Band was chosen for On Tap and Uncorked because it is a "legendary band here in Clackamas County and beyond."

She added that Gordon's "gutsy, bluesy style is attractive to a wide range of ages and tastes. We are so lucky she is able to be a part of this important fundraiser."
Stevens noted that Gordon embodies the Pablo Picasso quote that reads: "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."
She added, "Rae Gordon has found her gift; she walks the walk. Plus, her music is top notch."
Stevens further noted that the MCC Foundation's mission is to provide funds and assistance to all the center's programs.
Stephens added, "Our support allows programs to thrive. Community involvement in the foundation and our generous donors allow us to fulfill that mission."
Eat! Drink! Have fun!
