Bowls for Hunger Soup Dinner preparing to be served – Waushara Argus

December 4, 2021
The Bowls are almost ready and the soups have been pledged for the 25th annual Bowls for Hunger Soup Dinner Monday, Dec. 6.
This year the event will be carry-out only.  “Planning was a little hectic this year with the uncertainty of COVID spikes,” said coordinator Jeff Napp.  “I hate to use as much styrofoam as we will be forced to use, but it is better than having to shut down for a year,” explained Napp, “We will package up all of the meals as well as the stoneware bowls for easy transport home.”
“I am hoping that some patrons may choose to contact and deliver meals to people who just can’t get out at this time,” Napp added.
Most of the bowls that have been crafted this year have a reference to the 25th year anniversary of the beginning of this project. They are also happy to extend the reach of the benefit to Waushara County since Westfield has quite a few students from the area in their school population.
The lineup of restaurants donating to the meal is ever-growing.
Westfield’s Village Inn is donating creamy potato soup, Los Morales from right outside of town is giving chicken vegetable soup.  The Cross-roads Chateau will feature beef barley soup.  Mikey’s of Harrisville will make a great chicken veggie soup.  The Pioneer restaurant will donate chili.
Kent Janisch’s Budda restaurant of Plainfield will also create chili for the meal.  Oyster Crackers of Montello will feature both cheeseburger soup and chili.
Generations of Oxford will bring chicken noodle soup.   Bucky’s Pizza is donating bread sticks, and Super Value of Westfield is giving buttered buns.

Our High School FACE department will create fresh-baked cookies for the event.
The Meal will be served and packaged from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, in the Westfield Area High School Cafeteria.  Come in pick out your commemorative bowl. Please remember to bring a non-perishable food item, which also will be donated to the food pantries.  Volunteers hope to see you there.
