While you may prefer to make the snack yourself (on the stovetop or via the microwave) or purchase your popcorn bagged and pre-popped, if you are a fan of O Organics popcorn you’ll want to stop what you’re doing and check your pantry. The company just issued a recall for its five-ounce bags of sea salt flavored organic popcorn due to an undeclared allergen.
According to an announcement published by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), O Organics is recalling its sea salt organic popcorn due to a potential allergen that was not listed on the package. Affected bags weigh five ounces and were sold in supermarket chains Safeway, ACME, King’s, Balducci’s, Jewel-Osco, Andronico’s Community Markets, Vons, Pak ‘N Save, Albertsons, Carrs-Safeway, Haggen, and Pavilions. The bags were distributed in 17 states across the U.S. — Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Idaho — plus Washington D.C. The packaging has best by dates of September 24 or 25, 2022, and the UPC 079893 403038.
These lots may have been cross-contaminated with a milk allergen, according to the recall notice, and could provoke reactions in those with an allergy or sensitivity to the ingredient. So far no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported. Those who purchased the affected popcorn can return it to the store they bought it from for a full refund.
