School kitchen gardens to grow organic veggies – Daily Pioneer

Schools in Chhattisgarh will have their own kitchen gardens, which will grow organic vegetables. A total of 214 higher secondary schools have been identified for this.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has made an appeal to organize ‘Maati Pujan Diwas’ to mark Akshaya Tritiya on May 3. The School Education Department will initiate organic farming in the school kitchen gardens.
The vegetables thus grown will be used for mid-day meals, an official communication said on Saturday.
The Directorate of Public Instruction has issued guidelines to all the Collectors and District Education Officers.
On an experimental basis, organic farming will commence in 214 higher secondary schools having a minimum of four acres of agricultural land. These schools have agriculture as a vocational course and land is available for theory and practicals as part of study.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Agriculture Science Centres and Horticulture Department of concerned districts) will coordinate. It would ensure the availability of soil, organic seeds, vermi-compost manure and cow urine.
The concept is to spread the message of organic farming.
