Sauk Village Farm Grows Organic Produce To Sell, Donate To Residents – Patch

SAUK VILLAGE, IL — A community farm in Sauk Village is getting ready for its first harvest of local, organic fruits and vegetables to give to the community.
The It Takes a Village Community Farm comes from a partnership with Grace United Church of Christ, Just Roots Chicago and Good Vibes Farm. Just Roots partners with Chicago-area communities affected by food deserts and helps establish urban farms.
In the case of Sauk Village, the nearest store that is not a gas station or convenience store is located miles away in Chicago Heights. Grace United dedicated 3 acres to the initiative, officials said at an open house for the farm Saturday.
Residents will be able to purchase the goods from a farm stand, and much of the produce will also be donated to food banks and local schools. Throughout the year, a spokesman for Just Roots Chicago said, the farm is expected to supply around 50,000 pounds produce.
