Cheese company investing in tech to add new jobs in Willows, as well as 100% organic – Action News Now

WILLOWS, Calif. – A new cheese processing plant in Willows is putting time and money in new technology and improving the environment.
Inside the building located on Harvest Lane, east of Interstate-5, workers pack, box and ship pounds of delicious cheese.
But before the tasty treat gets here.
“All of our farms from a dairy standpoint are over on the North Coast which is really Humboldt and Del Norte County,” said Joe Baird, the CEO of Rumiano Cheese Company.
Baird said the neat part about these farms, is they’re going 100% organic.
“Organic is really what we don’t put into the soil. So in terms of herbicides and pesticides those sort of things, those things go out,” Baird said.
And most of it ends up in Willows.
Not only is the company investing in going all organic, but it’s also investing new tech for its employees.
“What we’re trying to do is find a way to impact this community by retaining jobs by bringing in equipment and stuff were reallocating those people to jobs that are more high tech,” said Patrick Henson, director of operations. “More ways to utilize that’s nicer for them so they don’t have to be so manual operating.”
If employees don’t know how to use this equipment, the company will help pay for their training.
“We invest in our current employees, they will go to butte college in different trainings and courses and classes or collaborative efforts to improve them,” Henson said.
And the more technology it has the more jobs it will bring to Willows.
“We’re going to find ways to invest right here in the local community,” Henson said.
The Rumiano Cheese Company also just put money in a new website for people to order its product. You can click this link to visit its website.
Currently, the cheese processing plant in Willows has 160 employees.
All of Rumiano’s shipping materials from this point on will be made entirely from recyclable material.
